Oh the AMAZING power and confidence that comes with increased faith and knowledge!
So last night I was reading a bedtime story to our kids and our son requested the story “with the crosses in it.” (The crucifixion of Jesus.) I asked if he was sure he wanted to read that one because I didn’t feel it was a very happy story before going to bed. I would have preferred the story of the Resurrection personally. Needless to say, he insisted I read it, so I did.
Little did I know that it was exactly what I needed that night in order to grow closer to Jesus and to bring me to full understanding of what it is that Jesus did for us on the cross! It took a children’s bible, written simply and straight forward (with wonderful pictures to boot!) to get it completely through to this baby Christian! ….and I am SO thankful I read it!
Then after an awesome night of talking with a dear friend (by the way ladies, you are NEVER too old for a slumber party with each other!) and just sharing how awesome our God is and revealing to each other proof of just that, I was compelled to study Romans 7-14 today. I’m embarrassed to say this, because I am saved and I have no doubt of my salvation, but I have not been putting Christ first in my life. I thought he definitely held a very prominent position, but I was so stuck on pleasing so many people in my life (myself included), that I just couldn’t grasp why I in the world I kept failing so horribly!
I’m not sure why I chose Romans or why I chose to start with chapter 7. I had learned a few years ago that God has a way of putting a message in your path when you don’t know which way to turn. Well, He did just that. I came to understand what it meant to put full trust in God. What wonders come from following Christ. I also saw my life laid out as I read what has happened when I didn’t. I can not convey just how eye opening it was! The timing was perfect. It was a rainy, lazy day at home. The kids were SO mellow for a change and content in coloring, putting together puzzles or watching a movie, that I got to sit quietly amongst them and just take in God’s word. Hashtag, God at the controls.
Needless to say, today I grew to have a love for Christ and for my Father like I have never known. To KNOW God’s strength and to feel Christ’s amazing, mind blowing love! It was a pretty amazing day when I was least expecting it! To have these truths to turn to when Satan tempts me to despair and when I want so much to rejoice and dwell on His amazing grace…pretty amazing! Plus, putting this new found order and faith to use today was incredibly powerful for this emotion-led chic.
Thank you God, for working on me to put you first in my life.
