“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28.
I had a very heart wrenching, sobering and humbling message shared with me today that made me realize exactly what it is God wants of me.
We like so much to read this passage as “And we know that all things work together for [OUR] good….”, when He makes no such promise. He does not guarantee you a steady job, a loving and caring spouse, children, good health, friendships etc. simply because you choose to follow Christ. His plan may mean you live a life without any of these.
However, if you choose to Praise God anyway, he will use you so that maybe generations to come (those called according to His purpose) may benefit of your faithfulness to Him, despite being poor, unloved, abandoned, alone, or crippled. There is nothing that I can do of myself to change my circumstances. No wish, no act, perhaps even no prayer that will plead my case to Christ so that I may have what my heart so deeply desires. If it is not God’s wishes that I should have the things I want, it is because He has something planned later down the road that I may never see come to fruition.
Ever hear the phrase “Sacrifice one to save many?” That’s kind of what this means. The one killed was not one of the “called” to receive good. He/she was simply used to be an example and a testament for what having faith in God and praising Him will bring about.
That’s not to say that the one sacrificed will be cast into eternal torment (although in this life it can feel like an eternity of heartache and torment). When we choose to follow Christ we WILL suffer in some way. We all will. However, the one being used for the good of many will, at last, have everything and more that they longed for in life, when they are in Heaven!
#trying to choose to praise God anyway, because He deserves it. Nothing I do or can ever do will deserve the love, praise or faithfulness that He does. Even if I am not to know the longings of my heart this side of heaven, I will look forward to the day I take my last breath and will stand before my Glorious God and Savior!
